Ultrasounds

What does an ultrasound do?

An ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to reveal the contents of your uterus, determine fetal heartbeat and see how many weeks along you are in your pregnancy. Additionally, this procedure can expose the possibility that you may miscarry or have an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy may be life-threatening, so it’s important to identify this risk right away. A missed period is often the first sign of pregnancy. For more early signs, check out our list of common pregnancy symptoms.

Why do I need an ultrasound?

While a positive pregnancy test can indicate pregnancy, the only way to confirm if your pregnancy is viable is through an ultrasound. Having an ultrasound is imperative to the decision-making process, no matter what option you’re considering.
